Shiksha Mandir School

Shiksha Mandir School

Gurup Village, West Bengal, India
Gurup Village
Gurup is a quaint little hamlet nestled by Durgapur Road, about 70 km. from Kolkata. The scattered little ponds, agricultural plots, earthen walled huts, little brick houses and temples in Gurup offer the real flavor of village Bengal. In 1981 the eminent mathematician Keshabchandra Nag of Gurup built the Ramakrishna Vishuddhananda Ashram on the sacred birth place of Swami Vishuddhananda, the 8th president of Ramakrishna mission.

Shiksha Mandir School
In the early nineties Smt Tatini Banerjee started this school for destitute children with a curriculum up to the 6th grade. The students are then admitted to the local public high school and they continue their coaching every day at Shiksha Mandir. All students are provided with clothing, snacks, milk, vitamins, books and utilities.

The Shiksha Mandir Students
Initially starting with 20 children we have gradually increased the enrolment to the present 50 students. We have expanded the school building by adding a second floor with extra classrooms and toilets. The children are excelling in extracurricular activities like drawing, painting, singing and basket weaving etc.

We envision enrolling them in our new computer training center which is now being used only for adult enrollees.
